CUI Splits Season Series With Biola

LA MIRADA,Calif. - The CUI Eagles went on the road to face PacWest Conference rival Biola Eagles.

The game had been preset to be a huge match for both teams being that it was the last home game of the season for the Biola squad and it was a game that could solidify the Green and Gold in the third place position for the PacWest Conference Tournament.

Although Concordia put up a fight until the final whistle, the BU Eagles came out victorious over the CUI squad 63-77.

To begin the action both Eagles squads came out ready to play and took turns trading baskets but the Biola team kept a slight edge. The Los Angeles team impressed their home crowd by shooting an astonishing 50% from the 3-point line through the first half.

The battle tested Concordia Irvine team did not let this discourage them even though they struggled to find baskets. CUI was able to force nine turnovers in the first half to help keep the game in reach. The Green and Gold trailed 26-34 at the break. Senior Jamel White was the lone spark for the Concordia squad with 8pts and 2rebs after the first 20-minutes of play. White finished the contest with 18 points 5 rebounds 4 assists and 2 steals.

Second half action proved to be no different for the traveling Eagles as they struggled to get stops and put points on the board. The lid never seemed to come off of the rim for the CUI Eagles and the home BU squad took advantage completing the upset.

"After last week's results, we really needed to compete well tonight and find a way to win this game," said head coach Ken Ammann. "It was really disappointing to not get enough on either end of the floor."

CUI will look to change the momentum on Saturday, Feb. 29th at 7:30 p.m. at the CU Arena against the first place Azusa Pacific Cougars. The Cougars are currently on a 19-game winning streak and the Eagles are hoping to end it there as well as build some momentum heading into the conference tournament.

Both of the Concordia Irvine vs. Azusa Pacific basketball matchups of the night will be aired on ESPN3. The women's game will be aired at 5:30 p.m. and set to be one of the best battles of the season.
