Eagles Finish Outrigger Tournament with Sweep Over The Royals

HONOLULU, HI - The Concordia men's volleyball team finished the Outrigger Resorts Invitational Saturday night against Queens University of Charlotte and earned a sweep of the Royals 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-19).

Raymond Barsemian led CUI with eight kills and five digs on the night. Hawai'i native Owen Chun also went 6-for-8 with a hitting percentage of .750 while Jordan Hoppe had six kills and hit .385. McLain Mott dished out 27 assists and added two kills while Addison Enriques led the defense with seven digs. As a team, the Eagles hit over .300 all three sets, finishing the match hitting .366 combined.

After getting ahead early in the first set, the Eagles were able to hold the Royals from going on a run longer than three points. Mott went on a four point service run to break away from Queens with a score 21-14. A few service errors from the Royals and a kill from Darcy Taig closed out the first set 25-20.

Concordia continued the momentum going into the second set by taking an early 10-4 lead with Jonathan Carlson at the back line to go on a service run. The Eagles never let the Royals get back into the game and once again would not allow them to go on a run longer than three points. Concordia was able to hold Queens to a .143 hitting percentage in this set.

The last set was no different from the previous two as Concordia took the lead from the beginning and never let off the gas petal. A couple aces from the Royals late in the third got them closer to the Eagles with a score of 23-19. However, a service error from Queens and an ace from JT DeMure finished the set and match for Concordia.

The Eagles will be back on the road next week on Wednesday, Feb. 12 against Pepperdine in Malibu at 7 p.m. The Green and Gold will be back in the CU Arena for their conference home opener of the season on Friday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. against UCLA.
