CUI Softball Closes Out Hawaii Road Trip

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii - The 12-game road trip through Hawaii for the Concordia University Irvine softball team is never an easy road to navigate. Rain and wet field conditions throughout this past week contributed to this year's swing through the islands being shortened to nine games and CUI ended up going 5-4 in those PacWest conference contests.

On Friday, the Eagles were able to get one game in against Hawaii Hilo. Unfortauntely for the Green and Gold, the Vulcans walked away with an 8-0 victory in five innings.

Vevesi Liilii cranked a three-run homer to open the scoring and CUI could not overcome that deficit on this day.

Megan Massa, Sydney Sprinkle, Mackenzie Graham and Michelle Lieng each recorded a base knock for the Eagles. However, UHH was able to avoid allowing CUI to string together a number of hits to avoid any damage.

"We didn't have a great trip in terms of playing," admitted CUI head coach Crystal Rosenthal. "No excuses, just not our best. We are going to have to really get focused when we get back on improving as a group, and work on our future games which is the only thing we have control over at this point."

The Eagles begin an eight-game homestand this coming Tuesday, March 10 when they welcome the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts to Irvine for a four-game series. Dominican visits Eagles Field later that week on Friday and Saturday.
