Game Recap: Men's Water Polo | | Ben Rosehart

Speedy Dimino Provides Spark Against LMU

IRVINE, Calif. – Almost every time members of the Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team jump in the pool, they are confident they will earn the first possession of every period.

Mission Viejo High School alum Andrew Dimino continues to shine as the sprinter for CUI, racing to the ball at the opening whistle and giving CUI a chance to score first.

Dimino went a perfect 4-for-4 on sprints against LMU on Wednesday and this is not the first time this has happened. In fact, it's becoming the norm.  The Mission Viejo, Calif. native has won 51 of 64 sprints during the regular season this semester – which means CUI wins the first possession of every quarter nearly 80 percent of the time!

Dimino also scored the first goal of the game for the Eagles in the first period.

Jeff Runyan and Callin Chimilar led the CUI offense with two goals apiece on Wednesday.  Runyan cashed in one of his two 5-meter penalty shots for his second score of the contest.

Unfortunately, the Lions also have many talented players and were able to tally enough goals to pull away for a 16-5 victory.

The next home game for the Eagles is slated for Friday, Oct. 29 at 1:30 pm against Santa Clara at Woollett Aquatics Center.  Before that, CUI tangles with the rival Eagles from Biola on Wednesday, Oct. 27 on the road.
