Eagles and Sunbirds Duel it Out on Senior Night

IRVINE, Calif. - It has been a long season for the men's soccer team, and on Saturday night, they finished their season off against the visiting Sunbirds. The program celebrated six of its seniors before the start of the match.

The six seniors that were celebrated for their dedication and love for not only soccer but their team, program, and institution were: Elijah Amadin, Willy Ospina, Nick Aquino, Luke Ryan, Alfonso Quezada, and Vincente Flores.

The atmosphere was electric, and the Eagles were amped to get the night started. Flores started the night off with an early goal in the 10th minute, volleying a loose ball in the box into the back of the net before the visiting keeper could react. Following the great opener from Flores, the Sunbirds were able to find two response goals taking the 2-1 advantage. Junior Wyatt Burris was able to bring the game level before the end of the first half with his first goal of the season, assisted by Klaus Huovila. Freshman Luca Page wanted a piece of the action connecting with a flicked-on ball from Burris in the box and tapping it past FPU's keeper, giving them the 3-2 advantage going into the break.

The away side was able to tie the match up right after the intermission, bringing the game to an exciting 3-3. The Sunbirds gained the advantage late into the half, but senior Luke Ryan wanted to make his Senior Night a special game to remember, powering a header into the top of the night, drawing the game at 4-4.

Unfortunately, the extra time wasn't enough for either team to find the golden goal. Despite that, the Eagles finished out the match outshooting their visitors forty to twenty-one shots.

Vincente Flores led the offensive charge tonight with six shots, and Tyler Oakson found his offensive flair with five shots.

We thank the seniors for all they have done for Concordia University Irvine Athletics and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!
