Eagles Shut Down Vulcans, VanderKlugt Now Second in All-Time Rebounds

HILO, Hawai'i – The CUI women's basketball team concluded their Hawai'i road trip with a win on Friday night, outscoring the Vulcans of Hawai'i Hilo 70-55. The Eagles are now 5-3 on the season and 2-1 in PacWest play.

Record Watch:

Michaela VanderKlugt continued making history on the court, recording her third double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. She now moves into sole possession of second place on the CUI all-time rebound list with 962, needing only 12 more rebounds to break Gitte Mejer's school record (973). VanderKlugt also sits third on the all-time scoring list with 1,766 career points, closing in on Jamie Gast (1,785 points) for second place.

The Game:

The Eagles' offense once again dominated against the Vulcans, never once trailing and maintaining the lead for the entire game. CUI has now played 80 consecutive minutes either tied 0-0, or with the lead.

Jasmine Rachal recorded her seventh double digit performance with 19 points in the game, while also averaging an impressive 17.0 points per game on the season. Savannah Felix-Amoroso has played a big role in the Green & Gold's success in the Aloha State, recording her third consecutive game with 10 or more points.

Samantha Fries, Rachal, and VanderKlugt each hit two three-pointers beyond the arc, with Fries also recording four rebounds in the game. Junior Katie Timmerman and freshman Camryn Kiernan each recorded a block in the game as well, shutting down any chance for UHH to get back in the game.

The Eagles return home on Thursday December 9th for a matchup against Academy of Art at CU Arena. VanderKlugt looks to break a school record and the Eagles look for their third straight PacWest win.
