SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Concordia women's soccer competed well against the current number one seed in the Southern California Pod, PLNU.
The Eagles battled against the Sea Lions who put up a strong defensive line. CUI got some great shots off with five being on goal. Unfortunately, this go around there was not enough shots that made contact with the net leaving the Sea Lions to take the win 2-1.
Marianna Maldonado scored her first goal on the season which tied up the game just a few minutes into the second half. Kourtney Kessler, the only scorer for the Sea Lions, was able to make contact with the net for the second time and give PLNU the lead with about 30 minutes left of game time.
"In games against teams like PLNU every play always needs to be important and taken advantage of," said Maldonado. "I think that is what helped me get through the tough defense PLNU put up. Just knowing that a moment like that could change the game for my team."
Jadenn Carrillo took three shots with two of them being on goal as
Carmany Jones added two shots with one being on goal.
"The girls competed well today," said head coach
Chris Gould. "I think we took an important step forward in terms of our process. The result didn't go our way but we created a couple of very clear chances that on a different day go in. We had a lot of good minutes and contribution from our freshman and that was also encouraging. We have our remaining games at home and we know it is
tough to play us on our field."
With three games left for the Eagle's women's soccer season they are looking to gain some wins on their home field. On Feb. 20 the Eagles will compete against Hope International at 6:00 p.m. to play under the lights! For the full Eagle schedule
