IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's basketball team traveled to Azusa on Friday afternoon to take on the Cougars.
Darius Lee led the Green and Gold with 15 points. He and
Dayshone Henry combined for 15 boards to help the cause. However, APU found a way to hold on for a 71-59 home victory.
Six different Eagles nailed at least one three-pointer and the Green and Gold shot 50 percent from downtown in the second half.
Drew Ramirez knocked down two treys after halftime and fellow freshman
TJay Lowery also scored six points off the bench. A third freshman,
Mac Stodart, joined Ramirez in the starting lineup and also contributed six points.
After a back-and-forth first half, CUI tied the game at 25 off a bucket by
Jalen Sanders and APU led by three at the break. However, APU went on a run to push the lead to double digits which proved to be enough of a cushion to fend off the Eagles three-parade as the game continued. Sanders finished with seven points.
CUI gets a chance at redemption when APU visits Irvine on Saturday, Feb. 20 with tip-off scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start after the women's contest.
Fans are not allowed to attend due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, but the game will be live streamed for free and live stats will also be provided online.
