IRVINE, Calif. – With a tough first quarter CUI was unable to break through to beat APU for the fourth time.
With regular season almost at an end CUI will go 3-1 overall against APU. The final score was 56-46 with the Cougar win. The Eagles with a slow start created an 11-point deficit for themselves at the end of the first quarter. The Green and Gold were able to battle back and win the second quarter as they scored 21 points and held APU to 17. The score at half was 33-26, APU lead. CUI won the third quarter as well scoring 12 points and holding APU to a low nine points scored. 42-38 was the score going into the fourth quarter, the Eagles had inched away at their deficit one basket at a time. During the fourth quarter the Eagles had got within three in the fourth quarter a couple times, unfortunately the damage done in the first quarter was hard to come back from.
The women's basketball team had a tough time finding the net today ending with a lower shooting percentage than normal.
Michaela VanderKlugt led the Eagles again with 15 points and nine boards.
Kennedy Fulcher dropped 12 points and picked up eight rebounds. Fulcher and VanderKlugt both hustled to get four offensive rebounds each.
Katie Timmerman added nine points for the Eagles and
Edina Del Rosario dished out a team high four assists.
The team is looking forward to their final regular season PacWest Conference games against Biola on Feb. 26 and ending at CU Arena on Feb. 27.
