IRVINE, Calif. – On a day where the rain came pouring down, there was still some sunlight that shined through on the Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team.
The Eagles celebrated the careers and accomplishments of their five seniors before facing No. 8 Point Loma on their home field.
Seniors
Andre Arendt,
Mac Hutchins,
Cayden Jones,
Brendan Laun, and
Michael Oakson were all honored before the match. Â Oakson also took the field as a starter alongside his younger brother,
Tyler Oakson, who is a freshman for Concordia.
As the game unfolded, Concordia racked up the shots and ultimately outshot the visitors by a count of 19-6. A number of scoring chances for the Green and Gold had the Sea Lions on their heels.
Both goalies performed at a high level despite playing in windy, chilly conditions. Hutchins was impressive and corralled four saves.  His counterpart, PLNU freshman Seth Ketterer, also turned in a solid outing and racked up nine saves to keep the Eagles off the board.
The tight contest was knotted 0-0 for the majority of the game until Teague Anderson cashed in off a corner kick in the 82nd minute of action. That lone score ended up being the difference despite a strong showing by the Eagles. Point Loma remained undefeated and improved to 5-0 with the 1-0 victory.
CUI returns to action in a scrimmage at Azusa Pacific on Wednesday, March 17. The Eagles are also hoping to make up their postponed match with Biola on Wednesday, March 24 but that has not been officially decided upon yet at this time.
