IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team dropped both games of today's doubleheader in a battle with #7 Azusa Pacific.
In Game 1, the Eagles were unable to score until the bottom of the 9
th inning, when
Kyle Fujisaki blasted his first career home run to put the Eagles on the board.
Will Bonn later singled, scoring
Nathan Benefeito, accounting for the Eagles' only 2 runs of the game. The Green & Gold pitching staff allowed 5 Cougar hitters to collect an extra base hit, which ultimately resulted in a 10-2 loss for CUi.
Cooper Moore led the charge in Game 2, hitting a 3-run home run in both the 3
rd and 5
th innings, totaling 6 RBI on just two swings.
After the Eagles took a 6-5 lead in the 5
th, the Cougars responded with 5 runs of their own over the next two frames. The Eagles made some noise in the bottom of the 7
th and were able to get the tying run on 1st base. However, CUI fell short in the comeback resulting in a final score of 10-8.
Eagles are back in action tomorrow (3/27) at Azusa Pacific for another PacWest doubleheader.
