LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Concordia women's volleyball team went up against Biola for the second time this season on Wednesday. The CUI Eagles were looking to bounce back and earn a win over Biola after losing the first matchup at the end of March. Biola was able to clinch the match this time in four sets however with scores 25-21, 12-25, 20-25, and 15-25.
PacWest Player of the Week from the SoCal pod Gracie Rowland led the Eagles with eight kills, six digs, and four blocks.
Patience O'Neal was right behind with seven kills, five digs, and three blocks.
Kirra Schulz tallied six kills and seven digs. Liberos
Cassidy Gelacio and
Courtney Arume both saw the court and added five and 12 digs respectively.
Brianna Latigue tallied 23 assists while
Hannah Tostado led the Eagles with three aces and six blocks.
McKenna Mokry and
Danielle McCasland came into the game the last two sets and collectively added five kills and four digs.
In the first set, the Green and Gold were able to keep a two point lead over Biola from the beginning. CUI took a timeout after BU took a one point lead after an ace. Latigue secured the first set over Biola with an ace.
Biola came out of the gates of the second set taking a lead over Concordia. BU never allowed CUI to get back in the set to tie the match at one a-piece.
In the third set, Latigue went on a serving run to start the set and take an early 4-0 lead with back-to-back Rowland kills. Just as the Green and Gold were coming back, Biola went on runs and never let Concordia back in. The fourth set was no different as CUI took an early lead but BU never let the Eagles go on more than a two point run to earn their win over the battle of the Eagles.
The Eagles will finish their season on the road against Point Loma on Wednesday, Apr. 21 at 7 p.m.
