IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team clinched the seven seed in the upcoming MPSF Championship Tournament after finishing up the regular season Saturday against No. 9 Grand Canyon.
True freshman setter
Brock Henderson handed out a career-high 23 assists and added six kills but the Eagles unfortunately lost 3-0 in their regular season finale.
CUI was locked in a close one in the second set but the Lopes escaped with a 25-23 victory. That was sandwiched around a pair of 25-17 wins for GCU to close it out in three sets.
Raymond Barsemian and senior
Jesper Schut joined Henderson with six kills apiece.
Erik Boisvert added five kills and four digs to help the cause.
Owen Chun added four block to leave the Eagles at the net defensively.
CUI will look to regroup for their next game as they enter postseason play this coming Thursday, April 22.
The Eagles enter the MPSF Tournament as the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 seed UCLA out in Provo, Utah, at 1 p.m PT on Thursday (2 p.m. local Mountain Time). BYU is the host school and will get a bye as the No. 1 seed.
The Green and Gold defeated UCLA earlier this season for the first time in program history. UCLA won the season series 2-1 with a pair of sweeps. CUI's historic victory came in five sets back on Feb. 27.
