IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine softball team went up against Biola in a doubleheader for the fourth time this season. Both games were close fought and both teams rallied to take away a win.
Â
Game One: No. 8 CUI 5, BU 2
Â
All-American
Callie Nunes pitched the first game of the doubleheader. She did a great job of competing and keeping the Biola offense off balance. She tossed four strikeouts and induced nine flyouts and six groundouts, working hard in the circle to keep her team in the game.Â
Â
Biola scored early in the first, but the Concordia offense quickly answered back in the bottom of the first matching their run.
Megan Massa worked her way on with a walk and was moved over by
McKinsey Thorpe who got on with a bunt. Then
Sydney Sprinkle picked up her teammates with a single to the right side that scored Massa.Â
Â
After the first inning the score was locked at 1-1, until the seventh inning. Biola scored in the seventh and CUI put on their rally caps to take back the game. Freshman
Rylie Rohr began the inning with a homerun over center that tied the game, 2-2. After Rohr's at bat, CUI's energy was off the charts and the bats stayed hot. Massa came up next and knocked a single up the middle. Then Thorpe got on by a fielder's choice that resulted in Massa's out at second. Sprinkle continued the inning getting walked and then
Missy Nemeth came up and launched a walk-off homerun over the left field fence resulting in Concordia's win 5-2. Nemeth came up big with that at bat which is also her fifth homerun of the season.Â

"I was just focusing on making my adjustments and I was really glad I was able to help my team," said Nemeth after the thrilling win.
"It was a super awesome feeling hitting that home run," stated Rohr. "To Help pulling our team to tie Biola and then Missy coming up behind me and scoring (three) runs after that, hitting a walk-off is a pretty awesome feeling."
Â
Game Two: No. 8 CUI 0, BU 3
Â
In game two
Kelsea Sweeney got the start for CUI. She was throwing some heat in the circle and she had a shutout against BU until the fifth inning when the visitors ended up scoring two runs.
Â
In the middle of the sixth inning,
Cortney Koelmans entered the game in relief on the mound. BU already had a runner on second, which ended up scoring, but Koelmans ended the inning with minimal damage. In the two innings Koelmans threw, she gave up zero hits and had two strikeouts.
Â
CUI's offense battled against BU's pitcher Raylene Roybal. Concordia ended the game with three individual hits by
Lauren Fairchild, Rohr, and Thorpe.
