BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine beach volleyball team traveled up north Friday for a doubleheader taking on the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners. Last season the Eagles won a close matchup with CSUB defeating them 3-2. Today the Eagles were looking to take both games and rebound from the split victory at CSUN.

In the first match, the Eagles came out the gate with some fire power. Sara Ostojic and Nickie Hughes made a statement in their first set winning 21-9 while avoiding a sweep from the Roadrunners. Hailee Ryan and Avery Keathley took their opponents to three sets. The Roadrunners ended up defeating four of the Eagles five pairs and winning the first match by a final score of four to one.

Looking to rebound in the second match the Eagles battled with the Roadrunners taking them to the final points. Mia Corippo and Alexis Dirige took the opposing duo to three sets winning the second and third. The matches Shannon Evans and Kya Bock played were a close matchup as they only trailed by five or less points. The Roadrunners were victorious in this matchup winning by a narrow score of 3-2.

"The team played great and for my partnership; specifically Hailee really showed up for me today and played great defense," said senior Keathley. "Everyone showed up and competed regardless of the fact the lineup was a little different from usual. I was proud of our maturity as a team to play through the adversity."

The Eagles will close out the season on the road in Long Beach, Calif. as they are set to take on St. Katherine and No. 16 Long Beach State on Thursday, Apr. 15. The times are scheduled at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
