IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team won both games of Friday's doubleheader against Academy of Art, improving to 18-14 on the season.
Haloa Dudoit, a 5-year starter out of Wailuku, Hawai'I, broke the all-time CUI hit record in Game 2, collecting both his 249
th and 250
th career hits.

Game 1: CUI 6, AAU 3

The Eagle bats came out hot to start Game 1. Dudoit led off the game with a hit up the middle, the 248
th of his career. Two batters later,
Jair Donovan went deep with a home run to right field making the score 2-0. That home run put Donovan in sole possession of 6
th on the CUI all-time home run list with 18 in his career. However,
Cooper Moore was not going to allow Donovan to catch him on the all-time home run list, as he hit a home run of his own two pitches later.

The Urban Knights scored in the third inning on an RBI single to left field, narrowing the lead to 3-1. Then in the sixth inning,
Matt Lautz singled to right center field scoring
Xavier Gonzalez and giving CUI another 3-run lead.

AAU was not ready to roll over, because the very next inning they hit a 2 RBI single to narrow the lead to 4-3.
Carpenter Pagett entered the game to pitch, striking out the first batter he faced to end the inning and strand the tying and go-ahead runners in scoring position.

The Eagles added on much needed insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh with a sac fly and a run scored on a wild pitch, ultimately resulting in a final score of 6-3.

Evan Larsen delivered a quality start on the mound, striking out eight batters in 6.1 innings pitched. Larsen leads the CUI pitching staff with 54 strikeouts on the season in 40.1 innings pitched.

Game 2: CUI 4, AAU 0

The Eagles dominated both sides of the ball yet again in Game 2 of the doubleheader. Starting pitcher
Cole Spear threw a complete game shutout for the Green & Gold, striking out eight batters and only surrendering four hits in 7.0 innings of work. Friday's performance was Spear's 3
rd complete game of the season.

In the 3
rd inning,
Haloa Dudoit tied Kyle Konicek for the CUI all-time hit record with his 249
th career hit on a line drive to left field.
In the fourth inning,
Cooper Moore demolished a ball OVER the batter's eye in center field, estimated to travel around 435 feet. This was his 22
nd career home run and he is now just one shy of moving into fourth place on the all-time home run list.

In the fifth, Donovan singled to left center field allowing Lautz to score all the way from first base, giving CUI a 3-0 lead. Later that same inning, Donovan scored on a passed ball to extend the lead to 4-0.

In the 6
th inning,
Haloa Dudoit came up to the plate with two outs and a runner on first base. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Dudoit hit a chopper up the middle that snuck into center field, giving him his 250
th career hit and crowning him as the all-time hit leader.

"To play every day, and to be as consistent as he has been at the position that he plays, and to be the human being that he is, it's just a five-star day and a five-star person to be the hit king is pretty darn cool," said CUI head coach Joe Turgeon.
