IRVINE, Calif. - CUI seniors Patience O'Neal and Brianna Latigue have been named to the PacWest Preseason All-PacWest Team.

Latigue has also earned the PacWest Preseason Setter of the Year Award!

CUI women's volleyball was picked to finish sixth in the conference this year in the preseason poll voted in by the coaches.  Azusa Pacific was picked to finish first with the most first-place votes, while Chaminade and Hawai'i Hilo rounded out the projected top three.

The Eagles will look to prove the doubters wrong and build off the momentum they earned last season with a breakthrough win over Azusa Pacific.

O'Neal led CUI with 93 kills, 3.10 kills per set and 53 digs in the 2020 season. The senior was named to All-PacWest Team in the SoCal pod and the Academic All-PacWest Team. In 2019, the Washington native collected 133 kills, 35 blocks, and 30 digs. She recorded a career-high of seven blocks against APU in November 2019.

Latigue has been the starting setter for the Eagles since her first year on campus and her accolades prove why she earned the award for best projected setter.  In last year's shortened season that was played in the spring of 2021, Latigue recorded 257 assists with an average of 9.18 assists per set while playing seven matches. The San Jose, Calif. native had a career-high 54 assists against APU and was named Academic All-PacWest selection for the third straight time.

In 2019, Latigue also dished out 785 assists which put her over 1,200 for her CUI career through two seasons. The senior tallied 11 double-doubles and handed out at least 40 assists or more on three different occasions.

The Eagles will start the 2021 season in the Broncos Fall Classic at Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 2 at 4 p.m. against Western Oregon.  CUI's home opener will be Thursday, Sept. 9 at 6:00 p.m. against Northwest Nazarene.
