CUI Projected To Finish Second; Carrillo Named Preseason PacWest Player of the Year

IRVINE, Calif.  – If the PacWest Preseason Poll is any indication, the Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team will be a tough out for any opponent to deal with this season.

CUI emerged as the No. 2 choice among league coaches for Best in the West and Eagles forward Jadenn Carrillo has been named the PacWest Preseason Player of the Year!

Carrillo already owns seven game-winning goals over the course of her first two seasons. That included 11 goals in her first campaign when she was named PacWest Freshman of the Year in 2019.  Along with fellow returning forward Carmany Jones, the duo has scored almost 30 goals combined between the two of them.

The Eagles also feature defender Molly Melanson, who joined Carrillo on the Preseason All-Conference Team. Melanson is known for sniffing out attacks on the wings and providing help along the back line for goalie Hailey Asato, who is also back for her senior season.

Point Loma is projected as the top squad and Azusa Pacific was picked to finish third while garnering a pair of first-place votes.

After playing their final scrimmage on Wednesday night, the CUI women's soccer team will open up the regular season at home on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. against Cal State Los Angeles.
