Box Score 2 CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team closed out the Inland Empire Classic in a split against Riverside Community College and Occidental.
Riverside City College 12, CUI 24
The Eagles had dominating performance against RCC in the morning with a final score 24-12. The Eagles out-shot the Tigers 39 to 27 with an impressive shot percentage of .615. CUI outscored RCC in three of the four quarters not letting them getting within range.
Shaine Sargis started the offense off for the Eagles with the first goal and adding three throughout the game.
Shako Khizanishvili took advantage of a powerplay and scored a goal with a man advantage, taking a 8-4 lead. Freshman
Kevin Shearer added three goals and one steal.
Giorgi Khizanishvili led the Eagles with five goals while four of the shots were in the fourth quarter.
Goalies
Hunter Osgood and
Tanner Powell split time in the pool tonight with five and seven saves to help the Eagles overcome the Tigers.
Occidental 10, CUI 9
Jeff Runyan added three goals on the day while leading the offense during this game. Junior
Shaine Sargis threw two in the back of the net in the last half and tallied three steals. Andrew Minimo had one goal with three steals with three other Eagles able to tally one goal.
The score continued to go back and forth with CUI taking a one point lead at halftime. After the third, the game was tied at 7-7. Sargis tied the game at 9 a-piece in the fourth with just over a minute left. Oxy retaliated right back taking the lead by one which finished the game.
Hunter Osgood played the whole game in the net for the Eagles and had nine saves and one steal.
The Eagles will host their home opener Friday, Sept. 17 at 12:30 p.m. against Saddleback at the Woolett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif.
