Box Score 2 IRVINE, Calif. – Fantastic performances by attacker
Jeff Runyan and sprinter
Andrew Dimino were among the many highlights for the Concordia University Irvine water polo team on Wednesday.
The Eagles earned their second victory of the regular season in a matinee in their home pool against Westcliff before measuring up with one of the top-ranked teams in the country in the evening.
Game 1:Â Concordia 11, Westcliff 8
Runyan scored a career-high five goals to lead a balanced offensive attack. CUI actually had four different players net multiple goals.
Harry Nixon helped the cause with two scores, including a sweet shot that just beat the shot clock buzzer off a pass from
Shaine Sargis in the third period.
Christian Bowley also tallied two goals at key moments to keep CUI in front in the second half, and
Callin Chimilar found the back of the net twice in addition to collecting a handful of blocks to stymie the Warriors.
Goalie
Hunter Osgood earned his second career victory and made 10 saves including back-to-back stops in the fourth quarter during one sequence that helped seal the deal. Â
Andrew Dimino helped set the tone by winning all four sprints to give CUI the first possession each period. Dating back to the exhibition game last week against Riverside City College, this marked the second straight contest where he won all four sprints to the ball.

Game 2:Â No. 13 UC Irvine 14, Concordia 5
Runyan got the Eagles on the board after the nationally-ranked Anteaters raced out to a 3-0 lead.
Sargis handed out a couple of assists in the second period, feeding Chimilar for a goal and then locating Dimino for his first goal of the day. CUI matched UCI with three total goals apiece in that second period.
Bowley sent a shot past the UCI goalie in the third to keep the Eagles close. Runyan would score a second time in the contest in the fourth off a pass from Golden West College product
Shako Khizanishvili. But UCI showed why they are ranked No. 13 in the country and prevailed, 14-5.
Dimino again was outstanding to open each period and won all four sprints against UCI. That put him 8-for-8 on sprints for Wednesday! Osgood collected nine saves between the pipes as well.
The Eagles are home again this Friday, Sept. 24 at 1:30 p.m. with an exhibition contest against Grossmont. The game will be live streamed and live stats will be available on the Fosh.
