Walkington, Carrillo Help CUI Race Past Holy Names

Golden Eagles Prevail With Second Half Flurry

Box Score OAKLAND, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team earned its first conference win of the year with a flurry of second half goals to top Holy Names 3-1.

CUI stayed unbeaten in PacWest play after earning a draw at Azusa Pacific last week.

Riley Walkington continued to shine in her senior season and led the charge with two goals.  Both came in a span of three minutes and were actually sandwiched around a tally by HNU and another Concordia goal.

"We finally put together a good sequence and went up 1-0," explained Walkington. "Shortly after, we got countered and conceded but Gabby played a beautiful ball in on a play shortly after and we capitalized!"

Jadenn Carrillo also found the back of the net on an unassisted goal to give the Golden Eagles some extra breathing room in the 66th minute.

The Golden Eagles have received votes three times in the first five US Coaches NCAA DII poll and are close to earning a spot in the Top 25 for the first time in program history.

CUI almost had a larger margin of victory.  In the 28th minute of play, CUI midfielder Layla Comeaux fed a cutting Walkington who narrowly missed scoring the first goal of the match at that moment.  She trickled a low shot towards the left post but it rolled out of bounds.

Walkington leads Concordia with six goals on the season and this victory marks the second time this season she has scored twice in the same contest.  She accomplished that same feat in CUI's 5-0 non-conference win over Biola in September.

Next up for Concordia is a date with Fresno Pacific this Saturday, Oct. 8 as conference play continues against California foes.  The Golden Eagles will bring a 6-2-2 record to the pitch and are 1-0-1 after their first two games in PacWest action.

The next home match for Concordia will be a rematch with Biola on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m.
