IRVINE, Calif. – Wednesday features a rare opportunity for the Concordia University Irvine men's basketball team to step into Pauley Pavilion and play on the fabled Nell and John Wooden Court at UCLA.
The Golden Eagles will visit the UCLA Bruins in an exhibition game that begins at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks and is the first chance for fans to see Concordia's new squad.
Concordia fans attending Wednesday's game at UCLA can also pick up a free Rally Towel if they arrive early and go to the Northeast entrance of Pauley Pavilion. Rally Towels will be handed out starting at 6 p.m. at that location. A large contingent of Concordia fans and alumni will be cheering from sections 210A and 210B in the arena.

The Golden Eagles return a talented group that includes point guard Kobe Sanders and swingman Cam Fini. CSUN grad transfer Lance Coleman II and former St. Bonaventure guard Alpha Okoli are among the new faces that fans will get to watch for the first time this week. Former Santa Margarita High School alum Kendall McHugh and true freshman Jackson Tucker from Bakersfield Christian High School are also among the new student-athletes excited to make their debuts for Concordia.
Another cool storyline is that UCLA forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. is the son of former Concordia basketball players Jaime Jaquez and Angela Sather (Jaquez). They both played for Concordia in the mid-to-late 1990s. His mother, Angela Sather (Jaquez) still ranks in the top ten in the record books in multiple categories, including No. 8 in career points and third in career scoring average. She averaged 20.2 points per game in her two seasons.
UCLA was picked as the favorite in the
Pac-12 Men's Basketball preseason media poll.
Coach
Ken Ammann enters this regular season with 499 career victories at Concordia after more than two decades of success at the helm. His teams have won at least 20 games in 16 of his 21 seasons since he took over in 2001.
Recently, both the CUI men's and women's basketball teams were projected to finish in the Top five of the PacWest Conference standings by coaches across the league.
