IRVINE, Calif. – Senior Day featured a five set thriller between the Concordia University Irvine and BIola women's volleyball teams.
CUI led 2-1 entering the fourth set but the visiting Eagles were able to come away with a 3-2 win by winning the last two 25-15 and 15-10.
Kirra Schulz led the charge with 21 kills and 12 digs. She finished the season with 18 double-doubles and more than 300 kills for the second straight year.
Senior
Cassidy Gelacio started at libero and led CUI with 16 digs. Fellow senior middle blocker
Jalyssa Sanchez added four kills and five blocks up while senior setter
Michelle Feliciano handed out a team-best 23 assists.
Halli Hooks racked up the most kills in the opening stanza with five of her nine kills coming right out the gate. CUI snatched a 25-17 lead to go up 1-0 within about a half hour.
Biola rallied to win the second set 25-17 to extend the contest but the Golden Eagles regrouped quickly. In the third, CUI placed five straight points to pull away.
Kawehi Chang assisted Schulz and Kenendy Farley on a kill each before Schulz landed an ace to go up 2-1.
Senior Gabby Barcelos capped off a good start to the fourth set with a kill to finish off a long rally and put CUI up 9-4. But BIola rallied with five straight points to tie it at 9-9 and eventually turning the tide.
Biola wound up escaping with the five set victory in the PacWest finale for both squads.
