SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - After falling behind early in the second half in their regular season finale, the Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team rebounded with three unanswered goals to paint a 3-1 victory over Academy of Art.
A scoreless first half set the canvas for a high-scoring second 45 minutes of action. Senior
Miguel Pena scored the equalizer less than five minutes after the Knights briefly took a 1-0 advantage. Defender
Ryan Smith was credited with the assist on the play.
With the match still knotted 1-1, a pair of CUI freshmen stepped up and left a lasting impression.
Kevin Sanchez used his head to bounce in the go-ahead goal off a
Jomar Munaf cross. That score in the 69th minute wound up being the game-winning tally.
Fellow freshman and CUI leading scorer
Anthony Morales then got artsy with a superb bicycle kick goal to put the finishing touches on this one. Morales strengthened his potential All-Conference resume by finding the back of the net off a cross from Pena.
