SAN LEANDRO, Calif. - On Saturday morning the Golden Eagles cross country squads competed in the PacWest Cross Country Championships.
The women's team made history breaking into the top three for the first time in the PacWest era. Meanwhile, the men competed hard against three regionally ranked teams to earn a fourth place finish.
In the men's 8k race,
Juan Sebastian Garcia and
David Berardi set the tone and finished in the top 20 to earn third-team All-Pacwest honors.
Jason St. Pierre and
Fernando Aguirre finished soon after with
Dustin Berger rounding out the scoring five as he continues his breakout season.
Head coach
Keegan Bloomfield commended his squad's performance saying, "The men's team gave great effort and really put themselves in a strong position at the beginning of the race. I'm happy with how they raced and the resilience they showed."
The women's 6k race was another step in the right direction for the Golden Eagles. As a dark horse to qualify for nationals, Concordia lived up to the hype finishing the day on the podium.
Porshe Eismann's third-place finish earned first-team All-PacWest honors and is the highest finish by a Golden Eagle in PacWest history.
Captains
Jori Paradis and
Sara Feitz also earned first and third-team All-PacWest respectively. Depth continues to be a common theme for this squad as
Elizabeth King and
Hayley Killion finished in the top 30 to round out the scorers.
"We executed our race plans really well," said Coach Bloomfield. "I'm happy with both our teams. The women's team was patient and moved up throughout the race. Moving from sixth to third. We had a tough week but the team raced together and picked each other up."
CUI will look to make history on Nov. 5, at 8:00 a.m. at the NCAA D2 West Regional Championships in Billings, Montana.
