Rachal Claims PacWest Player of the Week Honors

Brea Olinda HS Alum Averaged 17 Points In CUI's Latest Two Wins

IRVINE, Calif. – After leading the Golden Eagles in scoring in two of Concordia's recent victories, Jasmine Rachal claimed PacWest Player of the Week Honors from the conference.

Rachal averaged 17.0 points and 2.0 steals per game this past week while shooting 52 percent from the floor.  She navigated her way to the rim with ease against Fresno Pacific and Holy Names, scoring 13 points in a balanced attack against the Sunbirds on Saturday.

The Brea Olinda High School alum then dropped 21 points on the Hawks in Monday's matinee. Rachal made her first seven shots from the field against HNU and picked up three steals.  CUI's suffocating defense blew the game open in the second half and the Golden Eagles ultimately forced Holy Names into 21 turnovers during a double-digit victory.

She is one of the reasons why Concordia has opened up conference play with a 5-1 record against PacWest opponents. The only loss in the team's last entire seven games was against nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific.

The graduate student currently ranks in the top five in the PacWest in scoring at 13.8 points per game. Her 34 points this past week were the most from any player in the league.

Rachal also leads the Golden Eagles in free throw percentage. She is making an astounding 91 percent of her shots at the charity stripe.

The Golden Eagles will enjoy the Christmas break and then head to Hawaii for their three-game road trip.

CUI will then host Point Loma for their next home game on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 5:00 p.m. before the men's contest at 7:30 p.m.
