Concordia's Arnold Named D2CIDA National Player of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. - After leading Concordia to three home victories last week, Wayne Arnold has been named the D2CIDA National Player of the Week for the stretch between January 24-30.

Arnold is the first men's basketball player from Concordia to win this type of award on the national stage in the school's NCAA Division II era and the first from the PacWest Conference in over four years.  He joins Michael Smith (California Baptist), Petar Kutlesic (Azusa Pacific) and Darien McClain (Azusa Pacific) as the fourth PacWest student-athlete to win this award in men's basketball.

Arnold entered Tuesday's game at Biola ranked in the top five in the nation in both overall scoring average (24.1 ppg).

A transfer from Cal State Fullerton, Arnold scored 25 points in a close but critical win last Monday over Hawai`i Hilo. He went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc with five rebounds and two blocks to help CUI complete a season sweep of the Vulcans.

Three days later, the junior helped Concordia top Chaminade, 70-62 to earn a split in that season series. Arnold came up with four blocks while scoring 22 points and pulling down six rebounds in the Eagles second straight win of the week.

Arnold saved his best for last as he poured in a season-high 40 points against Hawai`i Pacific to help the Eagles move into the top five in the conference standings. His 40 points rank in the Top 10 in the CUI record books for a single-game performance. In that win, he also sank a career-high nine three-pointers, which was the second-most ever by a CUI Eagle in the program's NCAA DII era.

Arnold also blocked two shots in the win over Hawai`i Pacific, which incredibly extended his streak of games with multiple blocks to eight in a row. He ended January ranked third in the nation for blocks by a guard.
