CARSON, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team fell to Cal State Dominguez Hills in the series opener on Friday afternoon for their first loss of the 2022 campaign. The Eagles are now 4-1-1 on the season headed into Saturday's doubleheader.
The Toros got out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a double down the right field line to quickly take a 1-0 lead. CUI responded in the top of the third inning when
Tristan Hanoian reached on an error by the first baseman, scoring
Calvin Schonebaum to tie the score at 1-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, CSUDH managed to plate five runs on just one hit. This came as a result of seven consecutive free passes given up by CUI pitchers, including three hit batters and four walks. Those free passes catapulted the Toros to a 6-1 lead.
Four different pitchers toed the rubber for the Green & Gold, none pitching more than 2.2 innings. Redshirt sophomore

Carson Quintana combined to throw a scoreless final three frames of the game, racking up three strikeouts while allowing three hits in the process.
Seven different Eagles recorded a hit in the game, including freshman
Connor Laeng, who recorded his first hit as an Eagle on a single to left field in the top of the ninth inning.
CUI looks to rebound tomorrow, Feb. 12
