IRVINE, Calif. - After opening up an early lead, the Concordia Eagles emerged victorious on Friday by fending off a second-half surge from the visiting Cal Lutheran Regals.
Madison Ravelo continued to score at will and finished with a game-high five goals. She leads the Green and Gold with 17 goals in the team's first five contests. The senior also did her part in other ways with two recorded steals and an assist.
Tamsyn Evezard helped the cause with three goals while
Nicole Tormey and
Natalia Stanard each added two scores.
Emily Tucker added two assists and two steals.
Goalie
Tatiana Cava had a spectacular performance and collected a dozen saves. Cava added three steals while directing the CUI defense.
The Eagles took control in the second quarter and outscored the Regals 5-0 in that period. CUI brought a commanding 9-2 advantage into the halftime break.
The Regals rallied to cut the deficit to three in the fourth quarter before Stanard found the back of the net for a crucial goal. That tally made it 11-7 CUI.
Evezard's last goal cemented the victory for the home team.
CUI will be back at Woollett Aquatics Center in about two weeks on Friday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. against Ottawa University of Arizona (OUAZ). Before that next home match, CUI will play first at Azusa Pacific in a non-conference affair.
