Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's basketball team entered Saturday looking to earn a season sweep of their rivals from Point Loma and also spoil their senior day.
Kobe Sanders scored a career-high 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting against the Sea Lions. In doing so, the guard also tied his season-highs with eight made field goals and four made three-pointers. He's sank at least one trey in each of his last four games and in 11 of his last 12 appearances.
Joshua Caston supplied 18 points to help the cause while fellow graduate student
Rodrick McCobb added 12 points. The Eagles shot a solid 43 percent from the field and made all but two of their free throw attempts.
Unfortunately, the Sea Lions also shot the ball extremely well and finished shooting at a 54.5 percent clip from the floor. Concordia was game, but Point Loma Nazarene pulled away for a 91-65 victory to earn a split in the season series.
PLNU also shot 43 percent from downtown (9-for-21 on threes) to gain an edge in addition to only committing four turnovers against CUI's defense.
Kobe's older brother
Jalen Sanders added nine points and fellow Colorado native
Kayle Knuckles teamed up with his former high school teammate to pull down a combined ten rebounds.
CUI returns to action on Wednesday with a makeup game against Holy Names University that will be played in Irvine at 5:30 p.m. The Eagles and Hawks will also play their regularly scheduled game the next day at 7:30 p.m. as part of the original PacWest Conference doubleheader after the women's game at 5 p.m. at CU Arena.
