IRVINE, Calif. – Sunday's contest between No. 10 Concordia and the Chico State Wildcats featured two teams that had opened the 2022 Concordia Kickoff Classic in style with unblemished 4-0 records.

With the title of Tournament Champions up for grabs, the Eagles emerged with a 3-1 victory on the heels of a booming two-run homer by Rylie Rohr and solid pitching efforts from Cortney Koelmans and Erika Morris.

Rohr roped a liner over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning to send the home crowd into a frenzy.  It was the first homer for the Eagles this season and came at a great time against a tough pitcher in Brooke Larsen.  Chico State (4-1) was the defending tournament champs as they won the inaugural Concordia Kickoff Classic back in 2020.

Koelmans was cool and collected in the circle for the second time in 48 hours.  She improved to 2-0 after going five strong innings.  Morris came in for the final two scoreless frames and struck out two batters to secure the win and the save.

After earning their fifth win in three days, Concordia (5-0) finished the tourney as the only unbeaten team. 

Western Washington gave the Eagles an assist by handing Cal State Monterey Bay (4-1) its first loss of the week on Sunday. Cal State Dominguez Hills was named Tournament Champion runner-up after going 5-1 and was the only school out of the 21 participating teams to play six times in three days.

CUI outfielder Lauren Lopez joined Koelmans and first baseman Missy Nemeth on the All-Tournament Team.  Here is the full list:

On deck for CUI is a Tuesday date back on their regular home field against Montana State Billings.  The Jackets will stay in Irvine for a few extra days before both teams head to the Desert Stinger Tournament out in Arizona which is hosted by MSU Billings.
