PROVO, Utah – The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team is on the road to play in a MPSF match-up series against BYU this weekend. The Cougars held the Eagles to three sets in their first match with the final scores 25-16, 25-14, and 25-17.
Senior
Jonathan Carlson finished the match with seven kills and led the Eagles with two blocks against the Cougars. Carlson continues to impress behind the line serving one ace, which marks his eighth match earning at least one ace.
Uriel Batista contributed five kills while
Logan Glave had three. Many different Eagles saw the court Friday and contributed in various ways tallying either a dig or kill.
Danny Smithers and
Erik Boisvert led the back row with three digs apiece. Both setters
McLain Mott and
Makai Lipson saw the court dishing out 14 and seven assists, respectively.
In the beginning of the first set, the Green and Gold stayed close with the Cougars and were only trailing by two. BYU went on a four-point run that extended its lead to six and then closed out the set. The Cougars continued to ride their momentum until the end of the match not allowing CUI to get more than two consecutive points.
The Eagles will turn around and play against BYU again on Saturday, Mar. 12 at 6 p.m. (PT) and will be back in their home gym Thursday, Mar. 17 as they go against Ottawa (Kan.) at 7 p.m.
