IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine women's water polo has had great success at home this spring.
On Thursday, that theme continued as the Eagles stunned No. 20 Brown University in a low-scoring, non-conference affair, 8-6.
Tamsyn Evezard scored the last two goals of the contest for CUI to help the Green and Gold complete the upset. The Eagles improved to 9-10 overall and are 2-3 in the Golden Coast Conference.Â
CUI is also now an impressive 5-2 at home, splitting pool time between Woollett Aquatics Center and nearby Beckman High School.
The Bears built a 4-2 lead in the opening period before the Eagles came soaring back. CUI received important goals from Kim Riedel,
Emily Tucker and
Natalia Stanard in the second period to move in front 5-4 by halftime.
GCC points leader
Madison Ravelo tallied her second goal of the contest to help CUI push that lead to 6-4. Ravelo currently ranks second in the conference in goals (54) and recorded assists (37) this season and is CUI's top scorer.
After the Bears rallied to knot the game up at 6-6, Evezard stepped up and cashed in on two clutch shots to propel the Eagles to the finish line.
CUI Goalie
Tatiana Cava continued her stellar play with multiple point-blank saves in the second period to protect the lead. Cava finished with a game-high nine saves and a steal. The speedy
Nicole Tormey also helped out with a recorded steal and a win in the sprints.
