AZUSA, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine started a non-conference series against APU on Friday with one game. Azusa Pacific took the first game of the series with a 3-0 score.
Evan Larsen started on the mound for the Eagles and struck out 12 of APU hitters. This marks a career and season high of strikeouts for Larsen while being at CUI. The Costa Mesa, Calif. native allowed two hits and three walks in 6.1 innings pitched.
Noah McBride and
Carpenter Pagett came in to pitch and pitched a combined 1.2 innings with three strikeouts and allowing one hit each.
The Green and Gold offensive was led by
Will Bonn as the designated hitter earning two hits while three other Eagles contributed with a hit as well.
The Eagles struck first with
Kevin Fowler hitting a single to left center and advancing
Richard Castro to second after being hit by pitch but was unable to bring a player home. CUI was able to get a few more hits to try to get things going offensively but was unable to score.
APU scored two in the bottom of the seventh to take a 2-0 lead over the Eagles and continued in the eighth with another run scored.
The Eagles will be back on Eagles Field Saturday, Apr. 2 as they will finish the non-conference series against APU with a 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. slated start time.
