IRVINE, Calif. – The Eagles played their last home game of the 2022 season against No. 6 UC Santa Barbara and honored six seniors before the match. The Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team played hard against the Gauchos but ultimately came up short in the three sets with scores 25-23, 25-22, and 25-21.
All six seniors saw the court tonight at some point and made a contribution to the team.
Owen Chun had a double-double night with 17 kills and 10 digs throughout the match that came at clutch points for the Eagles. Chun also led with two aces that went untouched.
Logan Glave had six kills while hitting .308 with one ace.
Jonathan Carlson had four kills and had an impressive performance in the back row with 11 digs. Carlson and
Erik Boisvert shared two positions tonight between hitting outside and being the libero. Boisvert finished the match scooping up seven digs and tallying an ace.
Keegan Carey added a kill and dug up two hard hits from the Gauchos.
Middles
Mason Mullins and
Liam Roberts showed their talent both contributing four kills a-piece while hitting .400 and .500. Roberts and Chun were a big duo up at the net as they both had two block assists along each other.
Makai Lipson started in the setter position dishing out 22 assists along with
McLain Mott with 11.
CUI will play in the MPSF quarterfinal on Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 2 p.m. that will hosted by UCLA. The Eagles will match-up with the No. 2 seed of the tournament that is to be determined.
