IRVINE, Calif. - The PacWest Conference champion Concordia Eagles finished up their regular season by splitting a pair against second-place Azusa Pacific on Senior Day.
No. 11 Concordia honored its three graduating seniors
Lauren Fairchild,
Danielle Michaels and
Erika Morris before the first pitch. The trio have combined to win over 140 games during their careers wearing the Green and Gold.
The Eagles closed out the regular season with a 43-8 overall record and an impressive 29-3 in league play. CUI had already clinched the PacWest Confernece crown for the third time during its previous sweep of Holy Names on the road. That road trip also saw the Eagles secure career win No. 600 for head coach
Crystal Rosenthal.
Game 1: CUI 2, APU 1
Recently named PacWest Player of the Week
Sydney Sprinkle bashed a clutch two-run homer to erase a 1-0 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Megan Massa added two hits and a stolen base to pace the offense.
Jasmine Gorman also worked a walk and scored on Sprinkle's homer.
Starting pitcher
Erika Morris performed brilliantly and only allowed five hits and one earned run in 6.1 innings of work. SHe improved to 11-1 after
Katlin Entrup helped close things out in the seventh for her fifth save as an Eagle.
Game 2: APU 3, CUI 0
Four different Eagles managed to earn a hit in game two but APU did not allowed a run to cross the plate.Â
Entrup pitched four strong innings and only allowed three hits and one earned run.
Sydnie Sahhar tossed a four-hit shutout to help APU salvage a win.
The Eagles now turn their attention to the postseason which will begin in the second week of May.Â
The upcoming NCAA DII West Regional Tournament is slated to begin Thursday, May 12 and run through Saturday, May 14. Concordia will likely host one of the four-team brackets after the final regional rankings come out revealing the full list of eight teams from the PacWest, GNAC and CCAA that are in and the two host schools for that round.
