Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE, Calif. - On Thursday evening, the Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team was on the road at the CBU Invitational.
In their first game the Golden Eagles were matched up against Biola in a game where both teams could not establish a solid lead. After entering half tied at four, Biola was able to gain a one goal lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagles were able to even score midway though the final period, but Biola managed to score with 1:37 left on the clock. Although thirty seconds later,
Austin Wade responded and was able to find the back of the net and give Concordia a chance to win in overtime
During the first two quarters,
Jeff Runyan and
Harry Bentham matched Biola's two goals with a couple of their own. After both teams held each other's at bay, the game entered sudden-death triple overtime. With the game on the line freshman
Luke Addington rose to the occasion and netted the winning goal to seal the 10-9 victory.Â
The Golden Eagles' offense was led by Runyan, who scored six goals. This included five during regulation and one in overtime. Meanwhile on defense,
Hunter Osgood was able to keep Concordia alive with his 13 saves.
Later on that evening, the No. 16 Cal Baptist Lancers were next up to challenge the Golden Eagles. The Lancers were able to establish a strong lead early which they never relinquished in their 21-5 victory. Â Concordia was led on offense by Bentham's two goals with additional scores from Runyan, Wade, and
Jacob Stuart.Â
