IRVINE, Calif. - On Saturday night, the Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team were set to face the Biola Eagles in a non-conference showdown. The Golden Eagles looked to end the final match of their preseason campaign on a positive note before PacWest play begins next week.
In the opening minutes of the match,
Carlos Moate delivered an excellent ball to
Tyler Oakson who headed it past the keeper to put CUI on the board first. The Golden Eagles were able to keep Biola from finding the back of the net for the remainder of the half thanks to stellar play from their back line.
In the second half, Biola was able to even the score, but Oakson responded minutes later with a goal off an assist from
Domenyk Jara. Later on with the game winding down, Biola was given a penalty kick and
Andre Flores denied the equalizer with conviction. Unfortunately, Biola was able to tie the game 12 minutes later.
The game ended in a 2-2 draw for the Golden Eagles, with both sides combining for 23 shots on goal.
The Golden Eagles will be traveling up I-5 next Friday, Sept. 30th, as they play their conference opener against Azusa Pacific.
