CUI Finishes Tournament with Rematch Win Over CSUSM

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team finished the Seaside Invitational Saturday with a sweet victory in a rematch against Cal State San Marcos. The Golden Eagles dominated the match in four sets with final scores 25-15, 20-25, 25-18, and 25-15.

Although the Cougars were able to take a set off the Golden Eagles, CUI prevailed in four and took control of the match after losing the second set.  This is the second matchup between the two teams as CSUSM hosted a tournament last weekend and had won in a five set thriller.

Middle Halli Hooks was in control up at the net defensively for the Golden Eagles as she put up nine blocks during the match that went down untouched by the Cougars. Every player playing front row made a contribution blocking for CUI with at least one stuff.

Devin Sivertson had 16 assists and nine digs while another setter Michelle Feliciano added 20 helpers and three digs from the back.  Libero Julia Wilson was all over the court digging up great hits that led the Golden Eagles with 18 digs.

Daniela Poles and Cassie Prior both finished the match with seven kills each and had a combined seven digs.  Kirra Schulz led the Green and Gold with 15 kills and had 10 digs - making that her sixth out of seven games played with a double-double.  Kennedy Farley had five kills and Ally Scheidle put down four.

The Golden Eagles move to 3-4 on the season and will start PacWest Conference play on the road as they go up north to play three games in three days starting with Dominican on Friday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
