CUI Closes Out Day Two Of The Triton Invitational

LA JOLLA, Calif. - On day two of the 2022 Triton Invitational, the Concordia University Irvine men's water polo closed out the tournament against some solid competition.

In the first matchup the Golden Eagles faced off against Whittier College in a game where both teams struggled to establish a solid lead through the first three quarters. Though in the final quarter, Whittier was able to put up three goals that helped them seal a 12-9 victory.

The Golden Eagles' offense was led by Jeff Runyan, who scored six goals. This included a pair of goals in both the first and third quarter. He additionally put up one goal in the second quarter that tied the game at four.

Freshman Leo Erickson is proving to be a solid offensive threat for this Golden Eagles squad. He scored two big goals in the fourth quarter that helped cut the team's deficit down to three.

Connor McElwee and Jacob Stuart were also able to find the back of the net in the second and third quarter respectively.

The Golden Eagles later faced fellow Irvine university, the Westcliff Warriors to close out the tournament. After establishing a four goal lead heading into halftime, the Warriors were able to hold that lead to a 16-11 win.

CUI's offense was led by the familiar duo of Runyan and Stuart who combined for six goals in this contest. The Golden Eagles also had goal contributions from Harry Nixon, Austin Wade, Callin Chimilar, and Luke Addington. On defense, Hunter Osgood was able to keep the Warriors within reach with his eight saves.
