IRVINE, Calif. – Senior
Kirra Schulz from the CUI women's volleyball team has been named the PacWest Defender of the Week after an impressive weekend during the Seaside Invitational this past week.
Schulz scooped up 65 digs in just four matches while adding 53 kills to her name. The San Clemente, Calif. native recorded 20 digs each against Simon Fraser and San Francisco, 15 digs against Cal Poly Pomona, and finished the tournament with 10 versus Cal State San Marcos.
Out of the seven matches played so far for the Golden Eagles in 2022, Schulz has recorded a double-double in six of those with double digits in kills and digs. The outside hitter is already at 117 digs on the year and is averaging 4.18 digs per set, putting her behind the Point Loma libero in the PacWest conference.
Schulz recorded a career-high with CUI tallying 28 digs in a four set match-up against Saginaw Valley on Aug. 27 at the Cal State San Marcos tournament the weekend prior.
In the 2021 season, Schulz finished the season with 276 digs behind libero and recorded double digits 16 times while earning Second Team All-PacWest pick last year. The outside hitter led the Golden Eagles with 308 kills and was second with 32 aces.
The Golden Eagles start PacWest play this weekend as they travel up north to play three consecutive days starting with Dominican on Friday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
