LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After a successful trip in Washington for the Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team, they took a shorter trip to CSLA for another road matchup Thursday night. Cal State Los Angeles women's soccer was selected as finishing 5th this season by the CCAA but would still be a tough challenge for the green and gold.
The first half saw an almost even stat line from both teams, each finding two chances at goal but neither team finding the back of the net.
Following the break, Cal State LA was the first to strike, firing a threatening strike to the lower right, but goalkeeper
Riley Urquiza made her third stop of the night.
The home team took the lead in the 49th minute after a foul in the box was awarded a penalty kick, and Urquiza chose the wrong way.
The following 41 minutes of regulation saw no response from the green and gold, ending in their first season loss.
CUI outshot their opponents ten to eight shots, with
Jadenn Carrillo recording 5 of those herself and one hitting the goal's frame.
With a quick turnaround, the women's soccer team opens up their home schedule this Saturday, Sept. 10th, against the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills. The game starts at 3:30 pm, and you can purchase tickets beforehand at
