IRVINE, Calif. - With basketball season just around the corner, the Concordia University Irvine men's team is gearing up for their first contest of the fall.
This Wednesday, Nov. 1 marks a huge home exhibition game at 7 p.m. against Vanguard right here in in Irvine!
Admission is free to this game, but it will not count in the standings.
The Golden Eagles are led by head coach
Ken Ammann, who has helped Concordia collect over 500 wins as he enters his 23rd season at the helm. Standout returners from last season are
Kobe Sanders, who averaged 9.2 ppg, 3.6 apg, 2.6 rpg;
Jackson Tucker, who averaged 11.2 ppg, 1.0 stl, and started 23 out of 25 games, and SAAC rep
Connor Gleason, who shot 44 percent from three last season while also averaging 6.8 ppg and 0.6 stl.
Coach Ammann has also added four grad transfers and six freshmen to round out his team and try and compete at the highest level they can achieve.
To start their season, the Golden Eagles are on the road for the first eight games and then finally host their first home game of the season against Dominican University on December 16th, at 4:30 pm.
The Golden Eagles have extra motivation this season to write a true underdog story with the PacWest coaches preseason poll coming out over the weekend.
The annual poll has all of the PacWest coaches vote to see who they think will be the favorite to win the PacWest title, which includes Azusa Pacific finishing first, followed by Academy of Art, and then Hawaii Hilo.
