CUI Women's Soccer Rockets Up To No. 5 Nationally

Golden Eagles Named PacWest Team of The Week; Urquiza Honored A Third Time

IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team earned another first on Halloween as the Golden Eagles rocketed up to No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll.

CUI has been mentioned for the majority of the season among the best teams in all of NCAA DII but this is now the first time the squad has cracked the Top 5 in the national rankings.

The Golden Eagles secured an impressive 2-1 road victory at then-No. 10 Hawai'i Hilo on Monday to improve to 11-1-1 overall and 6-0-1 in PacWest play.  The Vulcans dropped to No. 13 in this week's new poll but are still right behind Concordia in the projected regional rankings as both teams occupy the two top spots.

Also on Tuesday, CUI was named the PacWest Conference Women's Soccer Team of the Week for the fourth time this season.

Goalkeeper Riley Urquiza made four stops against Hawai'i Hilo to slow down that high-powered offense and was named PacWest Defender of the Week for a third time as well.

CUI enters November in first place in the PacWest and controls its own destiny with just three regular season matches remaining.

Two victories would clinch the conference crown for the program for the first time in the D2 era since no other women's soccer team can reach 25 points in the standings. CUI enters Thursday's match at Chaminade with 19 points already and is the only unbeaten team in the league.
