IRVINE, Calif. - On Saturday afternoon's contest, the Golden Eagles headed into their third PacWest conference match and took on Academy of Art University from San Francisco, the Urban Knights.
The Golden Eagles were hungry for a win in this early PacWest play, and they delivered on cue for their first conference win against the Urban Knights. To get the ball rolling and the offense on high alert, there was some phenomenal passing by players such as
Isaiah Gutierrez,
Anthony Morales,
Carlos Moate, and
Alfonso Montano, who all notched an assist in the match.
With amazing passing and a keen offense on high alert, there was a goal bound to be scored soon enough. SAAC rep
Kevin Sanchez capitalized on a rebound off a shot by
Isaiah Gutierrez for an easy score in the 27th minute of the game, making it 1-0. After that goal was scored, the Golden Eagles never looked back the entire contest.
Goalkeeper
Andre Flores made a huge impact on the game with countless great saves and diving grabs to not allow a score from the Knights for quite some time. There were multiple times where Flores even looked like he was superman with his flying punch saves on the ball. Every time he flew up into the air, the crowd would get on their feet in amazement and ultimately stop the Urban Knights from scoring.
With the Golden Eagles on the attack and still hunting for more goals, less than 10 minutes later
Tyler Oakson scored his third goal of the season and made it a 2-0 contest.
The Urban Knights had their backs up against the wall before the half and needed an answer quickly. ART U was able to capitalize on one scoring chance to cut it to 2-1 before intermission.
The second half featured pretty even play for an extended amount of time between the two teams.
That all changed heading into the 82nd minute of the game.
A familiar face sealed the deal as Sanchez scored his second goal of the game and made it the dagger to send home the Urban Knights by a count of 3-1. Sanchez is the first Golden Eagles player this season to have a brace in a game!
The Golden Eagles hope to ride this win and see if it fuels them for future PacWest games. The men are back in action this upcoming Monday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. against Dominican University.
