IRVINE, Calif. - Concordia University Irvine is heading back to the women's soccer NCAA DIIÂ Tournament!
For the second straight year, the Golden Eagles received an at-large bid as one of the six teams from the D2 west region in the bracket.
CUI is the no. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seed Cal State San Marcos this Thursday, Nov. 16 at 12 p.m. down in San Diego on the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University.Â
The ladies finished only one point in the standings behind Point Loma in the chase for the PacWest Conference regular season title. Â
A win on Thursday against the Cougars would set up a rematch with regional host Point Loma this Saturday at 1 p.m. CUI defeated the Sea Lions 1-0 earlier this fall in league action and was the only team to defeat both Point Loma and nationally-ranked Hawai'i Hilo in conference play.
Concordia brings a 12-2-2 overall record into the postseason. Over the course of the past few months, the Golden Eagles posted nine consecutive shutout victories, smashed the school record by not allowing a single goal over the course of 11 games, and were ranked as high as No. 5 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.
Senior
Gabby Breton recently set the school record for career minutes played and
Riley Walkington and
Olivia Ocampo led the offense with five goals apiece. CUI boasts a sterling defense that is on pace to smash the program record for least goals allowed (16). The team only allowed eight goals the entire regular season and two of those came on penalty kicks.
CUI closed the regular season this past Saturday with
a strong 2-1 victory over new PacWest Conference opponent Westmont thanks to clutch goals by
Nikki Marino and
Madison Hall.
