CUI Closes out PacWest Play vs Westmont College

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After a successful Hawaii trip to go 2-1, the Golden Eagles traveled to PacWest newcomer Westmont College and closed out their last regular season game.

The Golden Eagles had confidence going into Saturday's game because they have had recent success on both sides of the field. Forwards Kevin Sanchez and Anthony Morales have been on an absolute mission for the last five games of the season and wanted to end their season on a great note to defeat Westmont.

With all of the pressure on Westmont, the Golden Eagles just couldn't apply that pressure on the Warriors. The Warriors were on the attack the entire first half of play and succeeded with their offensive flurry against CUI. The Golden Eagles saw themselves down at the half with a score of 2-0.

Coming back from the half, CUI tried to flip the switch and turn up the pressure against the Warriors with shots on goal from Tyler Oakson, but with no results. As the game progressed, CUI kept on attacking and did not waiver until the team heard the whistle blow to end the game. In the last minutes of the game, Anthony Morales made some final moves toward the Warriors defense and scored in the 87th minute of the game. The final score of the contest was 4-1 in favor of the Warriors.

The Golden Eagles wrapped up the 2023 PacWest regular season to go 5-5 and have the sixth seed going into the PacWest men's soccer tournament. Some noticeable players for the Golden Eagles who wrapped up their season efficiently include Anthony Morales, who led the team with 22 points on the season and scored nine goals while assisting on 4, and Kevin Sanchez with 15 points on the season and scored seven goals while starting 13 games.
