SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Golden Eagles traveled down to Point Loma for the last regular season game. Point Loma officially led the conference with a record of 18-1 before the match. Coming off a heart-felt senior night, Concordia charged into the match and took the Sea Lions by surprise. In a matter of five sets, the Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team beat Point Loma 3-2 on their Senior Night.
CUI came out of the gates swinging. Team energy combined with effective kills from Kirra Schulz, Kennedy Farley, and Alex Parisian launched Concordia's offense. The first set was taken 25-18.
Point Loma shook off the first set and came back to win the second and the third. Concordia pushed the envelope in the third set, even though Point Loma won it 26-24.
Concordia found true momentum in the fourth set and leapt past the Sea Lions. The Golden Eagles fought through long rallies, contributed hard swings, and achieved momentum-shifting blocks against their opponent. Every play was a battle worth watching.
It was point for point until the very last second. With an assist from Kawehi Chang, Halli Hooks scored the game-winning kill to finish the fifth set 15-13.
Offensively, Schulz, Parisian, and Caitlin Jarrell led the team in kills and hitting percentage. Senior Kirra Schulz achieved another double-double of the season with 17 kills and 15 digs. Caitlin Jarrell contributed 10 kills and 5 impressive blocks to the board. Alex Parisian fed the team's energy with her 9 kills and 3 blocks. Thanks to the efforts of the Concordia women's volleyball team, Point Loma finished regular conference play with a record of 18-2, while Concordia closed out 10-10.
CUI was able to overcome the Sea Lions with scores 25-18, 16-25, 24-26, 25-17, and 15-13.
