IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's basketball team put forth a valiant effort in its home opener on Friday afternoon to kick off the PacWest/GNAC Crossover Challenge.
Freshman guard
Izzy Navarro scored a career-high 23 points and filled up the stat sheet by dishing out five assists and coming up with five rebounds, five steals and three blocks. She shot 4-for-11 from downtown.
Junior center
Teagan Thurman scored 16 points and collected eight rebounds. She also turned away two shots.
Senior
Savannah Felix-Amoroso added six points and six rebounds in a starting role.
CUI led 37-35 at halftime but an early 9-0 run in the third quarter by the visiting Red Leafs moved Simon Fraser in front. Simon Fraser also won the final period by ten (23-13) to fend off a frantic charge by the Golden Eagles.
Concordia hosts Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2:30 p.m. as the two-day tournament continues in Southern California. Point Loma will hosts Simon Fraser in the matinee at 12 p.m. before Concordia's contest.
