IRVINE, Calif. - Concordia University Irvine women's basketball team looked to bounce back after their season home-opener, battling against Northwest Nazarene University Nighthawks Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles had a phenomenal first half of sharing the ball on offense, draining threes from deep, and creating a plethora of extra possessions from offensive rebounds. CUI players Izzy Navaro and Camryn Keirnan made a combined five threes in the first half alone. The game was close until the Golden Eagles went on a 15-5 run in the middle of the second quarter, and they never looked back. The ladies led at the half with a score of 42-30.
Coming back from the locker room at the half, CUI came out with a defensive focus that really set the tone for the entire second half of the game. Grabbing nearly every rebound for the Golden Eagles,
Teagan Thurman had herself a game playing extremely efficiently against the Nighthawks.
True Freshman
Izzy Navarro bested her career-high only one game after setting her original record by scoring a game-high and new career-high 26 points, dishing out three assists to her fellow Golden Eagles, shooting 6-for-11 from three-point land.
Junior center
Teagan Thurman filled up the stat sheet, scoring 18 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, assisting four Golden Eagles, stealing three passes from the Red Leafs, and one blocked shot.
Senior
Savannah Felix-Amoroso added 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and to round out the three-point shooting from the Golden Eagles, Junior
Camryn Kiernan scored 12 points, going 4-for-8 from downtown.
The Golden Eagles bested the Nighthawks and grew the lead larger with a final score of 92-76 to close out the GNAC/ PacWest Challenge games.
